Our Practice Focuses on Representing People Accused of Crimes in Washington State and Federal Courts

Professional and Compassionate.
Ms. Gause is that rare and necessary mix in an attorney: professional and compassionate. I hired her to address an outstanding warrant from my past. I was frightened, scared, and dealing with the trauma from being in an abused relationship, and Ms. Gause kindly walked me through the necessary steps we would take to address my warrant...

MEET emily gause

Emily Gause - Seattle Criminal Defense Lawyer

Recognized as an aggressive defender who gets impressive results in serious cases, Emily M. Gause is committed to compassionate representation, working with clients to devise an investigation plan and craft the most effective defense strategy.  She has a passion for defending juveniles facing criminal charges, as well as adults charged with serious felonies in state and federal courts across the State of Washington.  Ms. Gause has overturned convictions in the Washington State Court of Appeals and obtained many favorable results in felony trials.  She has carved an impressive reputation in the criminal defense legal community as a rising star.

After graduating with a degree in criminal justice from Washington State University, Ms. Gause dove into law school with the intent of becoming a criminal defense attorney. Her commitment to this path never wavered.

While attending Seattle University School of Law, Ms. Gause worked at Northwest Defenders Association, a public defender agency in King County. Prior to that, she was a Rule 9 Law Clerk with the Washington State Attorney General's Office where she focused on dependency cases and juvenile law.

For the formative years of her practice as a criminal defense attorney, Ms. Gause worked alongside renowned criminal defense attorney John Henry Browne and his partner Emma Scanlan. She learned from Mr. Browne's extensive trial experience and developed a practice of defending high-profile felonies throughout the State of Washington.

In November 2014, Ms. Gause launched her own firm. At Gause Law Offices, Ms. Gause and her team are committed to providing affordable, aggressive, and compassionate advocacy for their clients.

Ms. Gause has appeared in 22 counties in State Superior Courts across Washington state, and represented clients in all five United States District Courts in Washington.  She has handled hundreds of felony cases and obtained impressive victories in a wide range of cases, from shoplifting to murder cases and everything in between.

I was so scared upon first meeting Emily, as I had never been charged with a crime before and I was completely clueless on what to do. Not only did she explain, in detail, regularly what was going to take place - but she worked HARD to get the results I wanted. As a client, Emily opens her doors. You can reach out to her at anytime and she is so professional and knowledgeable. You will feel reassured just knowing your case is in her hands. And today, because of Emily, I am happy to report that I am conviction-free! I would recommend her to anyone and everyone. She is the best of the best!

Ms. Kim was with me from arraignment through the four-hour jury deliberation and everything that came after that. She spoke with the police in a way that made me wish I could have her with me at all times. She called me often, text me, emailed me, and answered my questions. She even listened to me cry the ugly cry. She discouraged me from taking a bad deal that I might have otherwise taken. She saved my life and saved my children from not having a father.

      MEET ANDREA KIM

      Gause-Law-Offices_Andrea-Kim-9450-web

As a child, Andrea Kim watched people she loved have their lives torn apart by the criminal justice system, an experience that deeply impacted her and led to her passion for defending those accused of crimes.

After studying Political Science and Criminal Justice at Washington State University, Ms. Kim attended Seattle University School of Law, interning with the Associated Counsel for the Accused, a public defender agency in King County, and then with the Honorable Judge Wesley St. Clair in the King County Juvenile Court as a clerk. She finished her final year as an intern with the Federal Public Defenders office in the Western District of Washington.

Ms. Kim has been practicing criminal defense since graduating from law school and is committed to helping her clients and their families navigate the complicated and frightening charges against them.  She has handled thousands of cases, beginning her career working for Feldman and Lee on municipal public defense contracts and private cases ranging in severity from simple shoplifting to felony drug charges. She gained invaluable experience as a public defender taking many cases to trial, ranging from domestic violence cases to DUIs and others.  Her expertise on these cases led to her becoming the trial trainer for all of the new associates hired by the firm.

        Andrea Kim & Emily Gause

      Andrea Kim & Emily Gause

After leaving Feldman and Lee, Ms. Kim became a partner with Choi Capital Law and ran the Criminal Law Department before joining the team at Gause Law Offices.  At Choi Capital Law, she handled many domestic violence cases and resolved every single one of those cases with some sort of dismissal.

Now an associate attorney at Gause Law Offices, Ms. Kim has continued to win trials and get cases dismissed for innocent clients. She has also helped hundreds of clients get better deals that resulted in them getting treatment or help for the issues causing their criminal behavior instead of jail time. An expert on evidence issues at trial, Ms. Kim deeply believes there is no criminal case that would not benefit from the assistance of a compassionate, thorough, and aggressive defense attorney.

      Amazing caring professional
I had a DV charge. She was relentless in working with the prosecutor. Always responded in a timely manner and I felt like she genuinely cared for my welfare. She got the charge dropped. I do not wish to need to use her services again but would highly recommend her!

        MEET ANN DORN

Ann attended George Fox University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications. Originally drawn to a career in journalism, she ultimately headed into marketing and worked for organizations including Pierce College and Symphony Tacoma. Inspired by the passionate advocacy of the attorneys she knew and an interest in law, she decided to become a paralegal and soon realized she had found a career she absolutely loves.

In her role at Gause Law Offices, Ann supports the attorneys in their work helping clients navigate the criminal justice system and resolve their cases with the very best outcomes possible. Her tasks include helping file notices and motions, organizing discovery, and other office administrative efforts to move cases forward and ensure the attorneys of Gause Law Offices are prepared and ready to mount the strongest defenses possible and fight for their client’s lives, families and their futures.

Upon the recommendation of a third party, we engaged Emily Gause to help with a criminal matter. Without doubt, that was an excellent choice. She is personable and reassuring. Her fee structure seemed fair and reasonable, and she was forthright and clear in explaining it in detail. Ms. Gause was considerate in trying to schedule meetings and communications at our convenience. She described the best and worst possible outcomes, promised neither, but did estimate (accurately) the likelihood of events. She followed up on every pledge and informed us of developments in a timely manner. Her demeanor with the investigators and prosecutors was defensive, naturally, but seemed marked with an appropriately measured degree of cooperation. We would not hesitate to suggest the name of Emily Gause to anyone needing the services of a criminal attorney.
